I filmed the Queen!
Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh visited the Australian War Memorial to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier on Tuesday 25 October 2011. This was The Queen’s seventh visit to the Memorial. The Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh walked through the Commemorative courtyard to the Hall of Memory, where The Queen laid a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier. The Royal party walked along the Roll of Honour to view the names of those Australians who have died during the Afghanistan conflict. The Queen met veterans and current serving defence personnel. After the official part of the visit, The Queen talked to members of the public at the front of the building and accepted flowers from children. Once the Royal couple had left, many people, including children, gathered on the front steps before going into the Memorial.
Documentary filmmaking tip #1
A good opening sequence is full of anticipation; it captures the interest at the outset and gives the promise of interest to follow. The conclusion is equally important and should have an air of finality and completeness. Even if the bulk of the film is unpredictable and cannot be scripted in detail in advance, art least try very hard to script the beginning and the end. Beginning s and ends don’t happen naturally, they need to be contrived.

The latest exhibition I am working on at the Australian War Memorial is an exhibition video featuring an army medic discussing his experiences in Afghanistan and explains the content of his responder pack. I also created a soundscape from the diaries from nurses, along with a youtube video which provides more info… Nurses: from Zululand to Afghanistan (by AustWarMemorial)

The foreground gunners window is digitally treated as though it was part of the archival footage you see in the background.
